A recent HDI installation at Kaiser Permanente’s Roseville location displays a contemporary, state-of-the-art railing solution for its five-story medical facility. Situated within the hospital’s 14-acre campus, the five-story multispecialty medical complex spans 210,000 square feet and encompasses multiple provider offices and services to better care for the community.

Railing System: Optik™ Shoe railing system
Location: Roseville, CA
Architect: HOK architects
Contractor:  Viking Steel

Kaiser Permanente Roseville, Placer County’s most comprehensive health center, comprises
various departments including women’s health, optical sales, pharmacy, physical therapy,
ophthalmology, imaging and an MRI suite. HOK architects turned to HDI for a railing system that could offer an unobstructed, spacious look giving the appearance of a floating glass system. The Optik™ Shoe railing system with glass infill was chosen to reinforce the building’s modern aesthetic.

HDI’s Optik Shoe system comprises a stainless-steel covered channel supporting glass panels which are secured in place using a patented disc lock system, providing a clean  uninterrupted look. High-quality 304 stainless steel was selected for the indoor installation and ½’’ tempered glass was chosen as the infill material. For LEED™ certification calculations, HDI’s glass panels contain approximately 20% post-industrial cullet (recycled glass). HDI’s glass supplier employs a process that recycles virtually all glass waste from its melting and cutting processes.

HDI railing systems are built to exceed durability standards making them a perfect choice for LEED material requirements. Kaiser’s Roseville location will be the only LEED Gold certified building in the greater Sacramento area. HDI’s “Fast Trak” program provided the railing system within an extremely short time frame from approval drawings to material shipment. All railings were fully assembled in HDI’s Pennsylvania plant and then deconstructed into fully assembled sections to ensure the most efficient installation. HDI carries a healthy inventory of railing product allowing for significantly reduced manufacturing and delivery schedules for those projects that require shorter lead times.
